I couldn't think of a better introduction to this story than the first paragraph written inside the jacket of this book. To write a work of historic fiction that has your family roots at the heart of it, is a true labor of love. Supriya Kelkar has written this inspired story about the freedom fighters of India and the challenges it places on its citizens' capacity for love, kindness and tolerance. I love that this story is told from a child's perspective and how she navigates through this climate within her town and family. I am sure Anjali's story of strength and hope for change will touch your heart as it did mine.
